Jenny Lanyon
Writer and Photographer
Jenny has carved a name for herself as a writer of life stories; her passion, engaging with people and telling their stories: the tall poppies, quiet achievers and everyday people who often have the most fascinating stories. As a journalist she documents words, taken from a lifetime of memories, and crafts them into stories. Along with her photographs, she presents them in book form or on DVD, to be preserved forever for future generations.
Commissioned by publishers HarperCollins as writer of the ABC book and collaborative autobiography Kissed by a Croc, she conducted interviews with subject John Lever during 2013, and in 2014 transcribed his words into a compelling book, which was inspired by the successful Australian ABC TV six part series Croc College.
Engaged by The Museum of Central Queensland on the Arts Queensland funded Moving House project, in 2013 Jenny compiled stories of people with a link to houses relocated from the gold mining town of Mt Morgan in the early part of last century. She captured and posted photos and stories on the mocq moving house website.
In Australia feature stories for newspapers and magazines such as Rockhampton’s The Morning Bulletin: Rural Weekly and the Outback Magazine have also been Jenny’s focus. As well, over seven years, to 2014, she has assisted Order of Canada recipient Dr Murray Newman to compile his memoirs: Letters Home from the Pacific War 1943 – 1946 and Islands of the Imperial Dream.
Rural people have often been Jenny’s focus as she’s followed the droughts and flooding rains, and the trials and tribulations of making a living in the harsh conditions of the Australian outback.
